Compassionate Care Wellness Luke Langohr Aka Luke The Brave!
Have you met Luke?
Luke Langohr is an medical marijuana patient in Califorina. He suffers from a rare skin disorder called Epidermolysisbullosa (EB).
EB is an inherited connective tissue disease resulting in extremely fragile skin. Even the slightest friction (like rubbing or pressure) causes blisters, tearing, and painful sores. “Butterfly Children” is a term often used to describe younger patients, because the skin is said to be as fragile as a butterfly’s wings.
Luke’s entire life has been marked with severe pain, night terrors, loss of appetite, insomnia, and isolation. The myriad of pharmaceutical medications prescribed by doctors only compounded his ailments—adding drowsiness, irritation, and gastrointestinal problems into the mix. At the age of 16, he tried medical marijuana to help alleviate his symptoms. It proved to be a miracle; in that time Luke saw improvements in all areas, especially a reduction in pain and improved sleep patterns.
Perhaps the greatest miracle, however, is Luke’s positive outlook. “It’s hard dealing with what I have, but we are here for a reason, and you just have to show that you can do it,” he says. But sometimes brute courage just isn’t enough. Luke’s bandages cost a fortune and consume most of his family’s resources, and large amounts of cannabis to make the oil can be costly and hard to find without the right help.
